A First Participatory Budgeting Project in Austin!

Friday 15 March 2019

The Municipal Council is pleased to announce the launch of Austin’s very first Participatory Budgeting Project.

Participatory Budgeting empowers citizens to decide together how to spend a portion of the municipal budget. They propose and then vote on projects that will contribute to their community’s well-being.

The funding allocated to the 2019-2020 edition has been set at $25,000.

How does it work?

Step 1. Proposals for projects
Submit your idea for a project you’d like to see implemented in the community.

Step 2. Project validation
A committee analyses the projects for feasibility and verify estimates, and proposes improvements if need be.

3. Vote
The population votes for their favourite projects.

4. Implementation
The Municipality implements the winning project in 2020.

Citizens interested in submitting a project must mandatorily attend one of the following information sessions:

  • Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to noon
  • Wednesday, March 27 from 7 to 9 p.m.

The sessions are held in the Community Hall, 12 Millington Rd.

Everyone is welcome!
