An important message from the Régie du bâtiment du Québec –
The snowfalls followed by periods of rain and warmer weather that we have experienced these past months can put a lot of strain on structures. The Régie du bâtiment recommends that you remove excess snow from the roof of your home, garage and carport. And don’t forget to clear emergency exits, balconies and sheds!
Call a specialist
If you need to remove the snow from the roof of your home, the Régie recommends hiring a specialised contractor to prevent causing damages to the roof’s waterproofing membrane. If you prefer to do it yourself, do so from the safety of the ground, using a roof rake equipped with a telescopic handle.
Pay attention to warning signs
In most cases, there will be signs of a roof’s potential collapse, such as the appearance of cracks on interior walls or jammed interior doors. If you notice such signs, remove the snow from your roof regardless of how much there is.
